Family Holiday in Albufeira: What a Week Really Costs
Updated September 10, 2026 · 5 min read
How much does a week in Albufeira with two children cost on the ground? Below are three worked-out weeks for two adults and two children (aged 7 and 10) in high season (July/August), prices as of September 2026.
What’s included – and what isn’t
Accommodation and flights are deliberately left out. The range is too wide for a reliable figure. The calculation assumes a self-catering holiday flat; anyone with breakfast or all-inclusive can cross off part of the food budget. Sunbeds, ice cream and souvenirs are also left out, as we found no reliable current prices for these.
Excursions: the item that quadruples
Tour prices are “from” prices per person, that is, floors. Whether children pay less is decided by each operator individually; it’s stated on the booking page. We therefore calculate all four at the full price.
| Excursion (from the 20 most popular) | from p.p. | × 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Benagil boat trip, the cheapest of these | €26.40 | €105.60 |
| Benagil boat trip, two of the most-reviewed | €31.19 | €124.76 |
| Catamaran along the coast to Benagil | €30.00 | €120.00 |
| Guided kayak tour along the Albufeira coast | €32.20 | €128.80 |
| Half-day jeep safari into the hinterland | €40.00 | €160.00 |
More realistic than the cheapest price is often the median: for cave tours it’s €35 per person, so €140 for the family. The cheapest cave offer in the comparison, a kayak tour from €19.43, starts on the beach at Benagil – getting there is at your own expense. Some kayak tours, on the other hand, start in Albufeira itself.
The two parks
Here there are official children’s prices (the parks’ online rate, 2026):
| Park and period | Adults | Children aged 1 m to 10 yrs | 2 + 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoomarine, June–September | €34.90 | €26.90 | €123.60 |
| Zoomarine, rest of the season | €28.90 | €18.90 | €95.60 |
| Slide & Splash, July/August | €31.50 | €24.30 | €111.60 |
| Slide & Splash, rest of the season | €28.80 | €21.60 | €100.80 |
Under one metre, entry is free, from age eleven the adult price applies. Zoomarine is near Guia, about 10 km away, with free parking and a bus stop 300 m from the entrance. Slide & Splash is near Estômbar (Lagoa municipality), roughly 30 road kilometres away depending on the route; without a car, bus lines 13 and 14 (Albufeira–Portimão) stop nearby. Whether Zoomarine or a pure water park suits the children’s age better is covered in Albufeira with kids.
Food: lunch out, dinner in
The dish of the day (“prato do dia”) is the best tool in a family budget. At simple places it costs roughly €8 to €15 depending on the source, often with soup and a drink; restaurants right on the beach cost noticeably more. Three courses for two people without drinks at a mid-range restaurant in Albufeira cost, according to Numbeo (as of August 2026), around €50.
We found no reliable average price for children’s menus; in the examples, children are therefore counted the same as adults. For the supermarket, a cost breakdown for the Algarve puts €700 to €900 a month for a family of four – roughly €160 to €210 a week.
Getting around
- Car hire: a small car from Faro Airport, booked in advance, costs around €35 to €60 a day in August according to one Algarve car hire company (as of 2026), with an automatic €60 to €90, in November €12 to €22. It gets more expensive at the counter: booking four to six weeks ahead saves 30 to 40% according to the same source.
- Child seats: the same company charges around €5 per seat per day; others charge more.
- Toll: the A22 motorway has been toll-free since 1 January 2025. Older guides still mention charges.
- Parking: in the car parks in the centre, roughly €1 to €1.60 an hour, at most €10 to €12 a day. Free street spaces fill up fast on summer mornings.
- Without a car: Uber/Bolt, a taxi or a transfer from Faro Airport cost roughly €35 to €70 per leg, with taxis charging a surcharge in the evening and at weekends. The airport bus costs around €11 per person and ends at the bus station 1.5 km north of the old town – barely cheaper for four people. In town: a taxi from just over €3, plus around €1 per kilometre (as of summer 2026, a fare reform has been announced).
What costs nothing
The beaches themselves: Pescadores, Falésia, Galé, Olhos de Água. At low tide, the rock pools at the foot of Falésia. The old town in the evening, the marina, the Pau da Bandeira viewpoint.
Three sample weeks
High season (July/August), seven days. Assumptions: transfer €50 per leg, car hire €60 (manual) or €70 (automatic) a day, parking €1 an hour, petrol 6 litres per 100 km at €1.79 a litre (Numbeo, August 2026), dinner €100 for four (twice three courses for two, without drinks). The supermarket item falls the more often you eat out.
| Item | Budget | Mid-range | Generous |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transfer Faro return (2 × €50) | €100.00 | – | – |
| Car hire (7 × €60 / 7 × €70) | – | €420.00 | €490.00 |
| Two child seats (2 × 7 × €5) | – | €70.00 | €70.00 |
| Petrol (300 km / 500 km) | – | €32.22 | €53.70 |
| Parking (15 / 30 hrs at €1) | – | €15.00 | €30.00 |
| Supermarket | €180.00 | €150.00 | €100.00 |
| Lunch (2×/3× at 4 × €12; 5× at 4 × €15) | €96.00 | €144.00 | €300.00 |
| Dinner (2×/6× at €100) | – | €200.00 | €600.00 |
| Benagil boat trip (4 × €26.40 / 4 × €31.19 / small group 4 × €36) | €105.60 | €124.76 | €144.00 |
| Zoomarine (family, online) | – | €123.60 | €123.60 |
| Kayaking (4 × €32.20) | – | – | €128.80 |
| Jeep safari (4 × €40) | – | – | €160.00 |
| Slide & Splash (family, online) | – | – | €111.60 |
| Total | €481.60 | €1,279.58 | €2,311.70 |
In the generous week, a good two-thirds goes on food and the car, not on excursions.
Where money leaks away – and where it’s worth it
Leaks away: park entry at the ticket counter. Zoomarine costs €41 and €31 there in high season, €144 for the family instead of €123.60 online. At Slide & Splash you save 10% online if you buy by the day before at the latest; the ticket listed here from €32 matches the low-season counter price, while the park itself sells online from €28.80 – compare. Also leaks away: picking up the hire car on the spot at the airport counter.
Worth it: the boat trip in a small group (4.8 instead of 4.6 stars) rather than on a boat with 47 seats – €19.24 more for the family. What else distinguishes the boat types is covered in Which boat to Benagil. And for anyone for whom one day at Zoomarine isn’t enough: the two-day ticket costs €45.90 and €37.90 in high season, €167.60 together – so the second day costs €44 for all four.
What the season changes
- Car hire: a week in August costs around €245 to €420 with a manual, €420 to €630 with an automatic, in November €84 to €154.
- Parks: Zoomarine is open from 12 March to 28 November in 2026, Slide & Splash from April to October.
- Boat trips: the prices above are as of 10 September. Whether they were higher in August, we cannot verify.
