The Benagil sea cave is the most photographed spot on the Algarve coast, and Albufeira runs more boats to it than anywhere else. Be clear about the distance though: Benagil lies about 25 km west, so most trips spend an hour getting there and an hour coming back. That is why nearly every Albufeira operator combines the cave with dolphin watching or a swim stop — you are on the water for 2.5 hours either way.

The classic is a 2.5-hour cruise that combines the cave with a search for dolphins, but the boats differ: a 47-seat jet-powered boat, a speed boat that does the outing in 2 hours, a catamaran, a semi-rigid boat, or a small-group boat with a guide.
Longer tours add something specific. A three-hour catamaran cruise includes a swim stop, the four-hour cruise adds brunch and an open bar (from €49), and the five-hour tour continues to Algar Seco, Marinha and the Seven Hanging Valleys (from €45). A catamaran trip with a marine biologist on board starts at €26.
Kayaks are a different experience. The two-hour guided tours from Benagil beach start at €19, but you have to get to Benagil yourself. A two-hour kayak tour from Albufeira stays on the local coast (from €32), while the three-hour one that paddles on to Benagil costs from €45.
When booking, compare group size, departure point and inclusions rather than the price alone. Every route depends on sea conditions, so keep your plans flexible and read the cancellation terms before you pay.
Good to know: Motor boats may enter the cave only through the western entrance and stay two minutes at most. Kayak groups get eight minutes – but those tours leave from Benagil beach itself, not from Albufeira. Nobody may stand on the sand inside: landing has been banned for everyone since 2024.

It depends on how much you want to do yourself. A boat is the easier choice from Albufeira and covers the coast in 2 to 2.5 hours without any effort. A kayak means paddling, but you get closer to the cliffs and beaches. Most kayak tours start at Benagil beach, so check the departure point first.
Several tours include a swim stop, and the catamaran listing mentions 10 minutes in the water. It is always subject to sea conditions, and not every tour has one, so read the description of the tour you like. Bring swimwear and a towel in any case.
Shared boat trips start from €26 per person, a small-group boat from €36 and the brunch cruise with open bar from €49. Kayak tours from Benagil beach start at €19, but they leave from Benagil rather than from Albufeira. These are “from” prices, so compare what is included before you decide.
